Highway Patrol Operator

This role is all about being the eyes and ears of the highway network, spotting issues early and making sure our roads stay safe and reliable.

As a Highway Patrol Operator, you’ll be responsible for patrolling and maintenance of the state highway network between Rakaia, Rangitata and Mt Hutt (SH1 and SH77). You’ll spend most of your day driving these routes, identifying issues early, carrying out routine maintenance, and responding to anything that could impact road safety or network condition.

Typical work includes general highway maintenance, inspections, minor repairs, and reporting defects or hazards before they become bigger problems. You’ll work both independently and alongside the wider maintenance team to keep the network safe, tidy, and operating as it should.

This is a role for someone who takes pride in doing things right, notices the small stuff, and understands the importance of safe, reliable roads for the community.

What you will need

• Experience working in road maintenance
• A Class 2 drivers license
• Experience with traffic management
• Self-Motivation and be able to work unsupervised
• Be a team player and have good communication skills
• Ability to complete a job to a high standard
• A good attitude towards Health and Safety
