Grading the roads of Mid Canterbury
In October 2020, HEB Construction was awarded the Road Network Operations and Maintenance Contract for the Ashburton District Council. Tarbotton Land & Civil have been subcontracted by HEB Construction to undertake the maintenance grading of the district's unsealed roads.
Unsealed roads account for a significant portion of Ashburton's roading network. Tarbotton Land & Civil are responsible for maintenance grading all the unsealed urban and rural roads between the Rakaia and Rangitata rivers, equating to 1,156km in total.
The unsealed roads are assigned specific grading frequencies and it's important that we grade the roads in a way that ensures these frequencies are met. Tarbotton Land & Civil has access to RAMM, the district council’s asset management system, which enables us to coordinate our team of grader operators and ensure that roads are graded on time. Over a 12-month period, our team will grade approximately 8,508km of unsealed roads!
The Tarbotton team have also worked with HEB Construction to complete routine and emergency maintenance tasks on unsealed roads, including drainage repairs, gravel supply, snow clearing and flooding repairs.
