Rakaia’s salmon sculpture transportation
Rakaia's famous salmon sculpture by artist Phil Price needed some love after 34 years of service. To do so, the 12-metre long and 1.6 tonne fish had to be carrefully transported to the artist's Christchurch workshop for refurbishment.
With the council-approved restoration budget, every bit of support counted. Tarbotton Land & Civil were happy to help, transporting the iconic sculpture from Rakaia to Christchurch completely free of charge as a small way of giving back to a much-loved local landmark.
At 5.2 metres high and 3.6 metres wide on the truck, it was no ordinary load. Careful planning ensured a safe and smooth journey, and the salmon is now well on its way to being back where it belongs. The team were proud to play their part in keeping this beloved sculpture in great shape for the community to enjoy for years to come.
